THE Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Health and Medical services Pauline McNeil has disclosed the first COVID-19 related deaths each for Western and Central provinces.
“We have five new deaths from the 48 hours-so that gives us a total count of 58 deaths to date for all of the country.
PS McNeil added that these five new deaths in the last 48 hours gave the country a total of 58 COVID-19 related death to date since the community transmission in the country.
“In terms of the breakdown of the deaths, Honiara reported 49 deaths, Guadalcanal province 10, Malaita 7 and western and Central provinces have one death each,’’ she said.
Speaking during the covid19 update radio talkback show on Sunday 13 February PS McNeil said that new cases reported in the last 48 hours were 187 while others are old cases.
The MHMS PS further said that 142 of these 187 are new cases.
“So we have 44 old reported cases from Malaita and one from the Western province that we recently received and registered.
“Our National count of total cases as of today (Sunday 13-02-2022) since the community transmission in the country is 4489.
The Central Island province did 193 swabs in the past 48 hours on Thursday 10 to Friday 11th February and came up with 77 positives with five cases of recovery at that time.
Most infected are front liners which include Police and health staff according to Central province Health Director Dr. Lesley Bonabo.
The western province had picked up 2 new cases, 1 case from 9 tests in Gizo and 1 in Helena Goldie from 18 tests for the past 24 hours on Friday 11th Feb.
According to Western province Health director Michael the new cases for the province on Friday 11th February stands at 134 cases.
