HIS Excellency the Governor-General, Sir, David Vunagi, and the cabinet will decide next week Saturday 24th July whether to embark on the 5th State of Public Emergency (SoPE) and an announcement will be made by His Excellency.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare clarified in Parliament on Monday that with regards to safety, the country is still currently operating under the state of public emergency regulations.
“We will continue to keep our country safe under the SOPE regulations, while the Bills and Legislative Committee (BLC) continues its work on the Public Health Emergency Bill and will see how we go.
“We feel that it is a very important bill and consultation must continue to happen so that our people understand what the bill is all about,” Prime Minister Sogavare said.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General (AG), John Muria Jr. when speaking during a talkback show on 4th July mentioned that the government will wait for the BLC’s consultations into Public Health Emergency Bill 2021.
AG Muria said if the BLC report on the Bill comes before parliament on time and passed, the country might go into a new era with the Health Emergency Bill.
