A total of 23 officers from the Police Response Department (PRD) of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) have been promoted to ranks of Sergeant and Staff Sergeant on 11 December 2024.
Fifteen officers were promoted to the rank of Sergeant while eight officers were elevated to Senior Sergeant positions. Among the newly promoted officers was a female officer who was promoted to Senior Sergeant.
RSIPF Commissioner, Mostyn Mangau, stated that these promotions are essential to strengthening and developing a capable leadership team within the RSIPF, especially the frontline tactical teams of the PRD.
Commissioner Mangau said strong leadership of the police force at all levels is important to ensure the RSIPF can safely and effectively protect the people of Solomon Islands and meet the national and international security obligations.
Now that the officers have elevated to senior level, he said the RSIPF expect them to be role models of the RSIPF.
“Being a leader in the RSIPF means showing courage, working together and living up to the highest standards of integrity at all times. It needs hard work and requires commitment,” Commissioner Manga said.
He reminded the newly promoted officers that more responsibilities are entrusted on their shoulders in serving the people of Solomon Islands and upholding the laws of this country.
One of the officers who was also promoted, Senior Sergeant Stanley Waita, said their promotion comes with great challenges but they hope to work together with the senior management level of the RSIPF.
“We will do our best to adjust with the modern policing environment. I encourage my newly promoted officers to focus on our policing mandates, of reducing crime, looking after the national security of this country and fulfilling the responsibilities mandated for us,” Senior Sergeant Waita said.
