The facility will operate as a community-based income-generating initiative, with fees collected from phone and device charging services and freezer usage. Funds generated will support community initiatives and contribute to the long-term operation, maintenance, and sustainability of the power hub.

The project was established to address limited access to electricity, communication services, and cold storage facilities, while also strengthening community resilience to the impacts of climate change. By improving food storage, expanding access to technology, and promoting renewable energy solutions, the initiative aims to enhance food security, support livelihoods, and mitigate vulnerability to climate-related challenges.

According to project partners, the Community Power Hub is a key step toward building community smart villages, where renewable energy, technology, and local enterprise work together to support sustainable and resilient communities.

The initiative reflects ChildFund NZ and Greenergy Pacific’s shared commitment to empowering remote communities through climate-resilient development and innovative energy solutions.
