SOLOMON Islands Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Cornelius Walegerea, officially presented his credentials to Mr. Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

This formal presentation marks Ambassador Walegerea’s accreditation as the Solomon Islands’ first Permanent Representative to IRENA.

In his remarks, Ambassador Walegerea conveyed the warm regards and appreciation of the Solomon Islands Government for IRENA’s role in advancing renewable energy initiatives globally and within the Solomon Islands.

He recognized IRENA’s technical assistance and support since its establishment in 2009, highlighting its contributions, including collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) on the Tina Hydro River Project and the Renewable Readiness Assessment (RRA) Report for the Solomon Islands.

Director-General La Camera welcomed Ambassador Walegerea to his new role and expressed IRENA’s commitment to supporting the Solomon Islands, particularly under the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative, which promotes renewable energy development in small island developing states.

As Permanent Representative to IRENA, Ambassador Walegerea is eager to strengthen cooperation with IRENA to advance Solomon Islands’ renewable energy goals. His focus will be on securing technical and financial support to develop bankable renewable energy projects that meet the nation’s growing energy needs.
