Prime Minister Hon. Matthew Wale’s meeting with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in Washington, D.C. has placed Bina Harbour firmly at the forefront of Solomon Islands–U.S. cooperation, signalling a major step toward unlocking one of the country’s most strategic national development projects.
During the discussions, Deputy Secretary Landau reaffirmed the United States’ strong interest in supporting the Bina Harbour development, recognising its potential to transform economic activity, strengthen maritime infrastructure, and expand long‑term investment opportunities for Solomon Islands. Both leaders agreed to advance technical and policy discussions to accelerate progress on the project.
The Prime Minister emphasised that Bina Harbour is a national priority, aligning with the Government’s broader agenda for economic diversification, energy development, and enhanced engagement with U.S. programs such as the Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
The meeting marks a significant milestone in deepening bilateral cooperation, with Bina Harbour emerging as a flagship opportunity for strengthened partnership and shared development goals.
