H.E Li Ming said Education is a vital area of cooperation and they are willing to promote cooperation between Universities in Solomon Islands and China.

70 Chinese Government Scholarship have been offered last year for Solomon Islands Students to undertake studies in China.

This year the Chinese Government will offer scholarships for another 20 students to Solomon Islands.

This was announced by China’s Ambassador to Solomon Islands His Excellency Li Ming on Wednesday when speaking at a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) dormitory project.

H.E Li Ming said Education is a vital area of cooperation and they are willing to promote cooperation between Universities in Solomon Islands and China.

“This is a new area of cooperation with great potential,” Ambassador Ming said.

Ambassador Ming further stressed that a Chinese language training program will be the next focus of education cooperation and wish that SINU will house the first Confucius Institute in the country.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare thank the government and the people of China for the scholarships and for agreeing to fund the SINU Dormitory project, a project which will enhance the capacity of the Solomon Islands National University, transforms images, and provide ultra-modern facilities for local students to the level and quality of hotel accommodations.
