FOLLOWING required final assessments undertaken by the Project Assessment Team and Honiara City Council of the National Referral Hospital’s new Comprehensive Medical Centre Facility, a brief technical handover meeting was held last week on Friday 17th January 24th, between the Project contractors, Jiangsu Jiangdu Construction Group Co Ltd, and executive officials of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and the National Referral Hospital.

The Technical Handover is an important step and a crucial formality ahead of this this week’s National Referral Hospital’s Comprehensive Medical Centre project handover from the People’s republic of China to the Solomon Islands Government on the 24th January 2025.

The meeting saw the handover of as-built drawings, a main maintenance manual, an equipment list and a furniture list for the completed Comprehensive Medical Centre.

During the technical handover, Specialist units within the various NRH clinics including nursing and allied health teams and the China Medical Team were presented to their respective work spaces at the new building. The specialist teams were shown their new work spaces which included consultation rooms, treatment and therapy units.  Subspecialist teams who attended the meeting also included cardiology, urology, nephrology and acupuncture teams. Other clinical support teams were also present, including biomedical engineers, medical imaging, medical laboratory and supporting services unit staff.

The documents were received and signed by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health and Medical Services Mrs Pauline McNeil.

“The Comprehensive Medical Centre project has come a long way and now we look forward to the hand-over of the project this week. We have reached the final stages, and the fact that it was completed within 13 months instead of the initial 16 months as initially planned, demonstrates the commitment and persistence of the all parties involved to seeing the project through to this stage,” said PS McNeil.

Meanwhile a high-level event is scheduled for this Friday involving a handover ceremony of the project from the Chinese Government to the Solomon Islands Government.
