People on Ulawa Island in the Makira Ulawa province are calling on responsible authorities to send Covid19 test kits after a Covid19 flu like symptoms outbreak hits suholo village.
Nurse in charge, Mrs. Angela Alahanimae of Taheramo clinic in North Ulawa Ward has confirmed that last week, some of the people from Suholo village who went to her clinic for treatment were presented with Covid19 flu like symptoms and say that she is worried that from reports, many from the same village have the flu.
“Many from the village of Suholo last week came to my clinic and most of the patients were presented with flu similar to that of Covid19; headache, dry cough, head Dizzy and sore belly”, she confirmed.
These are covid like symptoms thus it is best for health authorities to must send over some Covid19 test kits as well as Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) for health workers here on Ulawa to use when working.
“Here on Ulawa, the four clinics don’t have any protective Equipments, face masks are running out, gloves are running out as well as medicines. Health workers here are at great risk should there is any Covid19 positive case on Ulawa Island because of the lack of these proper equipments that were needed”, Mrs. Alahanimae adds.
“To make matters more worse, only three Nurses are currently working serving the populace of Ulawa, two here at Taheramo and one at Tawairamo for the past months”, she cocontinued.
She is calling on the Makira Ulawa provincial Health Authority to take this matter raised and send them as soon as possible by boat or plane as well as Covid19 vaccines so that health workers on Ulawa Island can administer the Covid19 vaccines since many of the people on Ulawa Island are yet to be vaccinated.
Ulawa Island still maintain its Covid19 free status in the Makira Ulawa province since the Corona virus pandemic hits the Solomon islands.
