MORE election-related social issues have emerged as voters in Ulawa prepare for the polling day that will take place next week.
It was reported that in some communities across Ulawa, some families are no longer on good terms with themselves because of the elections because not all eligible voters in the house are supporting one candidate.
In South Ulawa, it was reported that some people are putting nails on the main access road for traveling vehicles, which has raised a great concern amongst vehicle owners and transport providers.
Even though a call has been made by various contenders contesting this year’s elections during their campaigns for peaceful and clean elections, the recent happenings show the opposite.
Just recently, one of the nine candidates who is contesting for the Ulawa Ugi Parliament seat made a call to his people after some women supporters of two candidates provoked each other in a heated argument in the Su’u Moli community.
Candidate Davis Maemae expresses his concern, saying that voters must be mindful of how they do things and careful with how they speak during this election period, as these things can cause inconvenience to others and cause disunity amongst families and inside communities.
Many voters too have expressed their disapproval of the campaigning manner of some candidates contesting the national elections by publicly patronizing other candidates, which many voters say is disrespectful according to Ulawa culture.
In the meantime, it was evident that people mainly focus on the national level, as the election atmosphere at the provincial level is normal and calm, unlike at the national level, where things have started to heat up in some communities.
