ON 19th July, H.E. Ambassador LI Ming met with HCC Lord Mayor Hon. Eddie Siapu.
Hon. Mayor Siapu reiterated Honiara City Council’s firm support on the decisions of the Government of Solomon Islands to uphold one-China principle and establish diplomatic relations with China.
“HCC will continue to develop friendly cooperation with China and cherished the sister relationship with Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, China.
“At this challenging moment of fight against COVID-19, HCC is truly grateful for medical supplies and livelihood materials donated by Jiangmen City in the past more than one year, which had made important contributions not only to Honiara but also to the country as a whole.
HCC looks forward to learning more from Jiangmen city and enhancing cooperation in various areas,” Mayor Siapu said.
Ambassador LI congratulated Hon. Mayor Siapu on his inauguration and spoke highly of HCC’s support to China-Solomon Islands relations.
Ambassador LI said that, since the establishment of diplomatic ties, China and Solomon Islands relations has made tangible and fruitful achievements in many areas, particularly COVID-19 prevention and control, infrastructure and livelihoods.
“China places high priority on sub-national cooperation between provinces and cities of two countries. Many Chinese Community members in Honiara came from Jiangmen City of Guangdong province. In recent years, Jiangmen City and Honiara were engaged in deeper cooperation and exchanges and delivered real outcomes,” Ambassador LI said.
Ambassador LI also announced that Jiangmen City would provide 3 garbage trucks to Honiara to help address the increasing serious challenge of garbage disposal faced by local residents.
“This donation shows good will and friendship of the government and people of Jiangmen City towards the government and people of Honiara,” His Excellency LI said.
Hon. Mayor Siapu and his team extended appreciation for Jiangmen city’s donation of 3 garbage trucks and looked forward its early arrival.
