

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) on 30th May bid farewell and pays final respect to the Former Director of Nursing, National Referral Hospital (NRH), the late Reverend RN John Richardson Selwyn Houniuhi during his sending off service at the All Saints Cathedral, Honiara.
The former Director of Nursing, late Reverend RN John Richardson Selwyn Houniuhi passed away in the early hours of Tuesday 27th at the National Referral Hospital after a short illness.
The late Reverend Houniuhi serves in the Nursing Profession for 40 years. He obtained Certificate of Nursing at the Solomon Islands College of Higher Education (SICHE) in the year 1985-1987. In 1988 he was commissioned the Part 2 Registration with the Solomon Islands Nursing Council as Registered Nurse. From 1988 till his retirement in 2024 he served in the Emergency Department, Temotu Province and the National Referral Hospital. In 2010 he became the Director of Nursing for NRH. Apart from being the Director of Nursing the late Reverend Houniuhi serves as; NRH Executive Member, Member of the Solomon Islands Nursing Council Advisory Board, Member of Solomon Islands Nursing Association Executive, EOC Nursing Team Leader during the Avian Flu, SARS, Dengue Out Break Flash Flooding, Tsunami in Temotu Province and the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking at the funeral service on behalf of Health Minister Honourable Dr Paul Popora Bosawai and Health Permanent Secretary Mrs. Pauline McNeil, Deputy Secretary Health Improvement and supervising Permanent Secretary Dr Nemia Bainivalu described the late Reverend Houniuhi as a Visionary Leader who was part of the development of the Specialization Framework, development of Nursing Guidelines, Procedures, SOPs and SDPs.
