Public Accounts Committee Chair Bosowai Urges Budget Action
BY SHOREYANN RAGOSO
Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee Chair, MP North Guadalcanal, Hon. Dr Paul Bosowai has urged the Government to start preparing the 2027 National Budget immediately.
Speaking in Parliament on Monday, Dr Bosowai said a lack of time should not be used as a reason to delay the budget process.
He called on the Government to instruct ministries to prepare their budget submissions and move them through Cabinet and Parliament.
Dr Bosowai said preparing the national budget is one of the Government’s most important responsibilities because it provides funding for services needed by the people.
“The budget is for the people of Solomon Islands, financing the services that our people deserve,” he said.
He also assured the Minister of Finance and Treasury that the Public Accounts Committee is ready to work within a short timeframe to examine the 2027 Appropriation Bill.
Dr Bosowai said the committee understands the importance of completing its work so the budget process can move forward.
He also challenged the Government not to use political uncertainty as an excuse for failing to prepare the budget.
He said Parliament’s main responsibility is to approve public funds so Government services can continue and benefit the people of Solomon Islands.
His comments come as the Government works to prepare the 2027 Budget following delays caused by political uncertainty.
Bosowai’s call places pressure on the Government to begin the budget process now and ensure ministries have enough time to prepare their plans before the budget is presented to Parliament.
