Rennell and Bellona Province on the 21st of July commemorated its 33rd Second Appointed Day with a colourful celebration at Town Ground Rugby Stadium, bringing together provincial leaders, national government representatives, and families from across the Rennell and Bellona community.
The annual event marks the province’s journey since attaining provincial status and serves as an important moment to reflect on achievements, strengthen unity, and reaffirm commitments to future development.
The celebration was attended by Premier Hon. Erick Saueha, Provincial Minister Hon. John Junior Tuhaika, and Guest of Honour Hon. Alfred Lazarus Rina, Minister for Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening.
In his keynote address, Hon. Rina acknowledged the province’s progress over the past 33 years and reaffirmed the national government’s support towards strengthening provincial governance, improving services, and empowering communities.
Premier Saueha encouraged continued unity and collaboration, noting that Rennell and Bellona’s development journey relies on the collective efforts of its people, leaders, and partners. He highlighted achievements in community initiatives, local governance, and cultural preservation.
Provincial Minister Hon. John Junior Tuhaika also emphasised the importance of protecting the province’s unique cultural identity while pursuing opportunities that enhance livelihoods and support sustainable social and economic growth.
The celebration featured energetic cultural performances, traditional dances, and entertainment by local groups, showcasing the rich heritage of Rennell and Bellona. These performances added colour and excitement to the event, reinforcing the province’s strong cultural pride.
Community members, invited guests, and government officials joined in the festivities, making the celebration a meaningful reflection of the province’s history, resilience, and aspirations for a stronger future.
