THE XVII Pacific Games 2023 opened on November 19, and volunteer community groups in Honiara, Solomon Islands, took charge of cleaning up after the ceremony in a heartwarming demonstration of civic duty and community spirit.

With nothing more to show from the celebration, a horde of committed community members stormed the stadium as it was coming to an end, carrying disposable black garbage bags. This group’s effort demonstrated the community’s dedication to upholding a hygienic and ecologically friendly environment.

The community organizations promised to keep up their cleanup efforts for the duration of the two-week sporting extravaganza, so it wasn’t a one-time event. In order to maintain a spotless and inviting environment for competitors and spectators alike, more than 80 local communities are scheduled to actively participate in general cleaning and waste management at various game venues.

The dedication to cleanliness reflects a deep-seated pride among Solomon Islanders in hosting a clean, green, and safe Pacific Games. The focus on environmental stewardship and sustainability is consistent with the larger global trend of responsible event management.

In a statement, the organizers thanked the communities and acknowledged their critical contribution to the Pacific Games 2023 success. The combined effort not only makes the event more enjoyable for everyone who attends, but it also sets a positive example for community involvement and responsibility.

The opening ceremony itself was an amazing show that perfectly encapsulated the Pacific nations’ cultural diversity and athletic prowess. Brimming with eager spectators, the National Stadium set the tone for what looks to be an unforgettable XVII Pacific Games 2023.

Even as pictures of the packed National Stadium during the opening ceremony go viral on social media, it is the community organizations’ behind-the-scenes work that shows how committed everyone is to putting on an incredible and ecologically responsible sporting event.
