Honiara, Solomon Islands — The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) has held discussions with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) regarding the current political situation, ahead of the Motion of No Confidence which is scheduled to be debated in Parliament .
Given the Solomon Islands’ history with periods of political transition, SICCI recognises that businesses, service providers, and the public are right to remain alert, while continuing to go about their normal activities in a calm and orderly manner.
As part of its engagement with RSIPF, SICCI has agreed that any threats, information, or questions received from members and the wider business community will be passed on to RSIPF for investigation, and that SICCI will be kept informed of developments so this can be relayed back to stakeholders in a timely manner. Both parties note that the threat level surrounding the current situation can change quickly, and have committed to maintaining open lines of communication throughout.
On behalf of the private sector, SICCI has requested that RSIPF and relevant Government authorities give particular priority to the protection and uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructure and essential services over the coming days, including power and water supply, telecommunications and internet services, banking and financial services, ports, fuel supply, and other services on which businesses and households depend.
SICCI has also requested clear, regular communication from RSIPF and Government on the security situation, so that businesses can make informed decisions on their own contingency and continuity arrangements.
SICCI is asking all businesses and critical service providers to remain vigilant for and to have contingency plans ready so that they can respond quickly should the situation change. Members are encouraged to maintain close communication with SICCI and with RSIPF, and to report any threats, incidents, or concerning information through the appropriate channels without delay.

SICCI will continue to work closely with our security partners to help maintain a stable environment, and we will keep our members and the public informed as the situation develops. We encourage everyone to remain calm, vigilant, and confident in our democratic institutions and processes,” said SICCI Chairlady, Namoi Kaluae.
SICCI will continue to liaise with RSIPF and relevant agencies over the coming days and will issue further updates to members and the public as needed.
