In Ulawa Island

Three communities on Ulawa Island in the Makira Ulawa province have now received their first jab of the COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine so far.

Two teams from the Makira Ulawa Provincial Health Services arrived on Ulawa Island on the 22nd of September for the COVID-19 awareness and vaccination rollout program. One team did awareness talks while the other team followed, giving the first COVID-19 vaccine jab.

Amongst those who got their first jab on the first day of the vaccination rollout program are the three police officers Stationed at Taheramo police station as well as villagers from the surrounding communities there.

After the vaccination, the vaccination team leader, Mr. Mark Roy, advised those who have got the first jab to encourage their community members to also come forward to receive their first jab against coronavirus to protect their families should any breakout happen in the future.

Out of 28 eligible people in the surrounding communities around Taheramo clinic, the first vaccination center, only 12 people got their first jab.

The team is expected to complete the awareness and vaccination rollout program for Ulawa Island next week.
