THE Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) together with the Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) has successfully hosted the 6th Pacific Media Summit which concluded in style with a dinner on Thursday September 29 at the Pacific Casino Hotel in Honiara.

The theme of the 6th PINA Summit is, ‘The digital Revolution -Transforming Threats into Opportunities for the Pacific Media’.

Key speakers during the closing event were PINA President, Mr. Kora Nou, Australian Deputy High Commissioner, Sally Anne Vincent, Solomon Islands Leader of Opposition, Matthew Wale, President and Chair of the Media Summit, Douglas Marau.

During the occasion, the speakers emphasized lessons learned throughout the Summit especially on the theme, of how to utilize the digital era, and commend each other and the government sponsors of the weeklong event.

The summit featured plenary sessions on various topics from the media and political leadership in this digital age, media freedom and digitization and preserving pacific stories.

PINA President Kora Nou also announced the next host for the 2024 PINA Summit, declaring Niue.

“The PINA board meet this afternoon (Thursday) and decided on the next host of this PINA summit and it would be Niue,” said Kora Nou.

The Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) and Pacific Island News Association representatives (PINA) also exchanged gifts during the closing event as tokens of appreciation for each other.

The summit has brought Media professionals, CEOs, Publishers, and media representatives across the Pacific Islands region.

The 6th media summit 2022 commenced with Pre-summit workshops on Monday and Tuesday before the plenary sessions on Wednesday and Thursday and a retreat by PINA executive on Friday.

The next PINA summit will be held in the year 2024 in Niue.
