THE Prime Minister, the Honorable Jeremiah Manele, MP, has described the new Domestic Seaport Passenger Terminal as a testament to the power of self-reliance and the resilience of the Solomon Islands.

The Solomon Islands Ports Authority (SIPA), a state-owned enterprise, has opened its new, first-of-its-kind Domestic Seaport Passenger Terminal, which will host ship passengers traveling to the provinces or returning to Honiara.

The terminal was fully funded and built using SIPA’s resources. It was officially opened by the Prime Minister today.

During his speech, Prime Minister Manele stated that the terminal represents more than just bricks and steel.

“It is a testament to our determination, to the power of self-reliance, and to the resilience of the Solomon Islands,” he added.

Prime Minister Manele highlighted that the terminal “…is not just a marvel of engineering and design, but also a reflection of the capabilities and vision of Solomon Ports”.

“It stands as a beacon of hope, a symbol of our ability to create our own future, and a vivid reminder of the importance of believing in our own potential”, the Prime Minister underscored.

Prime Minister also attributed the new domestic passenger terminal to the resilience and the resourcefulness of our people.

The Prime Minister further accredited the building to the bold and ambitious strides the country is making in the journey towards progress.

Referring to the new Domestic Passenger Terminal as fully funded by SIPA, Prime Minister Manele stated that it speaks volumes about the organization’s growing strength, resilience, and determination to invest in the future of the Solomon Islands.

The Prime Minister referred to the new terminal as a great example for other SOEs, emphasizing that they too can achieve great things independently.

The new Domestic Seaport Passenger Terminal was fully funded by SIPA at a cost of more than SBD $100 million. The terminal will serve as both departure and arrival lounges for the general traveling public using shipping vessels. It includes cafeterias, ticketing offices, and other essential facilities.
