THE Media Association of Solomon Islands yesterday marked a significant milestone with the official launch of its new office in Honiara.

The event was held at MASI Office, NPF Plaza, Room 21, attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from the Australian government and the Pacific Media Assistance Scheme (PACMAS).

The Australian High Commission’s Political Counsellor, Cameron Darragh, expressed his honor in witnessing the opening of Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) new home.

He emphasized that this initiative aligns with Australia’s commitment to supporting a professional, resilient, and diverse media sector in the Solomon Islands over the next four years.

“This is a great initiative, and Australia is here to support it. This builds on the work of PACMAS,” said Darragh.

He further highlighted the importance of the new space, describing it as a place for planning, meeting, and executing the critical work of the Media Association in the country.

Darragh stated, “We are very excited and proud to be on this journey with you, supporting you in realizing your objectives and vision.”

MASI President, Ofani Eremae, also delivered an address, extending gratitude to the Australian government for their continued support. He described the new office as a testament to Australia’s commitment to strengthening the media landscape in the Solomon Islands.

“Having a space of our own is a significant milestone. This marks not only the physical establishment of an office but also strengthens our media landscape,” Eremae stated. He reaffirmed MASI’s dedication to upholding journalism as a pillar of democracy, transparency, and public service.

“This new office will serve as the heart of collaboration among media practitioners. It will stand as a beacon of press freedom and professional excellence,” he added.

The launch program was attended by Political Counsellor Cameron Darragh, PACMAS representatives, and MASI board members, reinforcing the collective commitment to fostering a strong and independent media sector in the Solomon Islands.
