This week’s Young Entrepreneurs Council Solomon Islands (YECSI) “Behind the Business” series, we shine a light on one of our own — Lynton Filia, the heart and mind behind Telebere News, a youth-driven blog dedicated to uplifting young voices across the Solomon Islands.
Running a blog while working full-time is no easy task, but for Lynton, it’s a labor of love.
“It’s challenging to keep the blog updated with the latest youth stories, but I’ve learned to make it work,” he shares. “Most of the time, I connect with young people through Messenger or email, and when someone prefers to meet in person, we simply find a café — because nothing beats a good conversation over coffee.”
What started as a voluntary side project has become a meaningful platform for youth empowerment, tackling topics like entrepreneurship, environment, and culture. Though it remains a passion project without financial backing, Lynton says the motivation comes from within.
“What keeps me going is the passion to share youth voices, ideas, and stories that often go unheard,” he says. “I’m also excited to be part of YECSI, which sometimes opens doors for me to feature inspiring young entrepreneurs.”
Telebere News isn’t just about news — it’s about storytelling with heart. Many interviews happen through casual chat apps, proving that powerful stories don’t always need fancy studios. Some of the blog’s best features began with a simple Messenger ping or a cup of coffee at a local café.
Here are a few fun facts about Telebere News:
- Coffee Chats = Storytime: Some of the best interviews happen over a latte.
- Messenger Magic: The team connects with youth from all over the country online.
- By Youth, For Youth: It’s all about young people telling the stories that matter most to them.
- Global Reach: Some stories have even reached readers overseas.
- 100% Volunteer Spirit: It’s powered entirely by passion, not profit.
Though small in size, Telebere News has a big mission — to amplify youth voices, spark conversations, and celebrate the stories of young people making a difference.
“Even if it’s just one story at a time, I believe we’re creating something meaningful,” Lynton says.
