The Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination (MNPDC) has officially launched the Medium-Term Review Report on the Solomon Islands National Development Strategy (NDS) 2016–2035, identifying several key areas to strengthen as the country moves into the remaining years of the NDS’s implementation.
Among the priority areas highlighted are strengthening governance frameworks, improving public service delivery, accelerating digital transformation, and enhancing resource allocation efficiency. The report also emphasizes the need to promote economic diversification, particularly in agriculture, fisheries, and tourism, while scaling up investments in education, healthcare, and climate resilience.
It further calls for stronger collaboration among government, the private sector, and development partners to ensure inclusive and sustainable growth.
Speaking during the launch, Permanent Secretary of MNPDC, Mr. Brian Lenga, said the review provides valuable insights that will guide national development planning and program implementation in the years ahead.
“The findings of the mid-term review report shows us clearly where we stand as a nation in achieving the NDS vision,” said Mr. Lenga. “It shows that while we have made commendable progress in some areas, overall, we are off track and there are critical gaps that require renewed focus, stronger coordination, and collective action.”
He further emphasized that the Government remains committed to working with all stakeholders to address the challenges identified in the report and to build upon the progress achieved so far.
“By leveraging our strengths, improving governance, and investing in our people, we can create a better, more resilient Solomon Islands for current and future generations,” Mr. Lenga added.
The NDS Medium-Term Review Report calls for renewed national focus, cooperation, and commitment across all sectors to accelerate progress and to achieve the country’s long-term development aspirations.
