Australia and the Solomon Islands have launched a major new regional skills program called Pacific Australia Skills, supported by a $229.5 million budget from 2025 to 2029.
The launch took place on 28 November 2025 at the Kwaimani Skills Hub, Upper floor Kwaimani Building, Kukum, bringing together leaders, partners, and community members.

The new program aims to invest in people by improving skills and training across the Pacific. It focuses on helping young people and workers gain qualifications that will lead to long-term, sustainable jobs. For many families, this gives hope for better income and stronger futures.
At the event, Australia’s Assistant Minister for Pacific Island Affairs, Senator the Hon Nita Green, praised the long cooperation between the two countries. She said, “For nearly two decades, through the Australia Pacific Training Coalition, we have worked with the government, training organizations, and communities to expand access to training, helping thousands of people gain the skills they need for employment.”

She added that these results show the “hard work and commitment of Solomon Islanders and what is possible when we work together in partnership.” Senator Green said the new program will also support “climate resilience, inclusion for women and girls, people with disabilities, and those in rural communities.”
The Solomon Islands’ Minister of Education and Human Resources Development, Hon Tozen Leokana, said the government is proud to continue this partnership. “Solomon Islands is committed to this partnership. We value it, we honor it and we are determined to make it a success for our people, our community, and our nation,” he said.
