The West Kwaio Constituency Water Tanks and Sanitation Project delivered 33 x 3,000L and 20 x 5,000L water tanks across the entire West Kwaio constituency.

Communities and students across West Kwaio constituency are benefiting from improved access to clean, reliable water and a safe, permanent venue for learning, community events and gatherings, thanks to 53 new water tanks and a community hall delivered through the Solomon Islands–Australia Community Partnerships program.

The West Kwaio Constituency Water Tanks and Sanitation Project is improving access to clean and safe water for drinking and cooking for more than 100 communities across West Kwaio. The installation of 33 x 3,000L and 20 x 5,000L water tanks will play an important role in enhancing the health and wellbeing of communities throughout the constituency.

The Foubaba CHS community hall has a capacity of 300 people and will also benefit the broader community by hosting cultural activities and community gatherings.
The new water tanks will enhance the health and wellbeing of 100 communities in West Kwaio.

At Foubaba Community High School, a brand-new community hall is providing students, teachers and the wider community with a safe and permanent venue for school assemblies, graduations, parent-teacher meetings and other important school events. With capacity for up to 300 people, the hall will also host cultural activities and community gatherings, benefiting the broader Foubaba community for years to come.

Australia acknowledges and thanks Hon Claudius Tei’ifi, Member of Parliament for West Kwaio constituency, for his contribution to and support of these important projects.

These are just two of the 342 community projects funded by Australia across every province and constituency since 2019, reflecting Australia’s ongoing commitment to improving livelihoods and supporting sustainable development outcomes throughout Solomon Islands.

Australian High Commission Second Secretary Bridgette Cottrill, West Kwaio Constituency Development Officer and Assistant Project Coordinator Bobby Siarani, and members of the Sinamauri community officially open the new project.

Australia’s High Commissioner Jeff Roach said “Australia is proud to partner with communities across Solomon Islands and Members of Parliament to deliver locally led development that responds to community-identified priorities.”

“Community infrastructure plays a vital role in improving access to essential services, strengthening livelihoods and creating opportunities for communities across Solomon Islands, particularly in rural areas.”

“What makes these projects particularly valuable is that they are identified, planned and delivered by communities themselves. By putting local priorities at the centre, communities and local leaders are able to deliver practical, sustainable outcomes that will benefit people for years to come.”

The outcomes of the next round of Community Partnerships will be released later in October 2026. The next round of funding will open in early 2027.
