The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has responded to public concerns by arresting a suspected member of the alleged “96 Gang” at Marble Street, Vara Creek, over the weekend.
Community elders in the Marble Street area are working closely with police to identify other youths suspected of being involved in the group.
The arrested suspect is reportedly being held at the Central Police Watch House and has been charged with unlawful assembly and common assault in relation to an alleged assault on a student at Tuvaruhu, as well as one count of malicious damage for allegedly stoning and damaging windows at Tuvaruhu High School.
Honiara City Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent Leslie Kili, said the suspect could be remanded at Rove Prison as investigations continue to identify and locate other suspects allegedly involved in the incidents.
Before this arrest, police apprehended five boys under the age of 17 in the Chinatown Rainbow Shop area on Friday, 23 October 2026, for their alleged involvement in unlawful behaviour.
The boys were reportedly linked to incidents involving theft and threats against members of the public in the Chinatown area.
Although these boys are believed to be associated with a different group, police continue to address reports of unlawful activities and behaviour affecting communities in Honiara.
PPC Kili said police had already issued warnings through social media, reminding youths that engaging in unlawful activities could have serious consequences.
He also urged parents and guardians to take responsibility for their children’s behaviour by providing proper guidance and discipline at home before police intervention becomes necessary.
Superintendent Kili is urging members of the public who have useful information about the whereabouts of the remaining suspects to report it to their nearest police station or contact the following police stations:
