OPPOSITION Leader Hon Matthew Wale has congratulated Labor Party leader Anthony Albanese as Australia’s new prime minister-elect.

In a statement today, Hon Wale conveyed his congratulations to Albanese and the Labor Party on their victory.

“Congratulations are in order from myself and the Solomon Islands Opposition Group members on your election victory,” the Opposition Leader said.

Hon Wale said he welcomes the Labor Party’s pacific policy to build a stronger pacific family.

“We welcome Labor’s pacific policy to strengthen Australia’s Pacific Partnership for a more secure region, effective climate change leadership and people to people relations to strengthen our pacific partnerships,” he said.

Opposition Leader Hon Wale also acknowledged one of the Labor’s flagship policy on the Pacific Climate Infrastructure Financing Partnership.

“Albanese and the Labor’s policy to see a more urgent and strong leadership on climate change in the pacific islands is welcomed and appreciated,” he said.

Hon Wale also welcomed Labor’s pacific policy in boosting support for pacific maritime security, Australia Pacific Defence School, boosting Australian development assistance to the Pacific, Indo-Pacific Broadcasting Strategy, Reforming and Expanding of the Seasonal Workers Scheme to name a few.

The Opposition Leader said as the alternative government, the Solomon Islands Opposition fully supports and endorses Labor’s promises and commitment to improve relations with the pacific and most importantly Solomon Islands.

“We wish the new Australia Prime Minister and his Labor party well wishes as they take helm in leadership not only in Australia but also the pacific region. Australia has and will always be a priority partner in the pacific and Solomon Islands,” Hon Wale said.
