THE HEALTH Minister in his national address highlighted that the COVID-19 fight is not yet over and therefore the country must not let its guard down yet but continue to uphold COVID-19 safe measures.
He said though Omicron though less severe when compared to Delta which has been the cause of the 1st wave, those unvaccinated more especially with underlying health conditions, the elderly and those with risk behaviors still remain at risk of being sick and even die from the new variant.
Dr Togamana highlighted that what is critical for the country is for everyone to remain united in solidarity as one family in the fight against COVID-19.
“Practically this requires everyone to play their part. It saddens me to see people complaining on the lack of enforcing COVID-19 measures by health and other responsible authorities. This should not be the case. We should all take responsibility for our own health, that of our families and friends and practice COVID-19 measure without the need for any to tell us to do so”.
“We should be making sure that we get tested and only travel once we are negative. We should be home isolating ourselves once we experience COVID-19 like symptoms and if our test results return negative. We should not leave quarantine stations while undergoing quarantine period nor allow our family members to enter. Mass gatherings including church gathering should not be stopped by authorities rather organizers should proactively seek guidance from our health teams to ensure safety for everyone at the event”, said Dr Togamana.
With COVID-19 vaccination he urged communities and individuals to not wait for health teams to roll out the vaccines to their communities before getting vaccinated, instead calls for cooperation by community members to go to the nearest vaccination centre to get vaccinated.
“This is the true meaning of unity, solidarity and togetherness in the face of COVID-19. Only through our combined cooperative efforts we will spare lives, preserve our health and overcome this virus”, said Dr Togamana,
