There are no positive COVID-19 cases recorded in the Country for the past four months.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services’ COVID-19 Health Operation Head, Dr. Nemia Baenivalu made the assurance during the recent OPM Covid19 radio talkback show update on Sunday.
Dr. Baenivalu said that the 20 positive Covid cases recently announced by PM Sogavare are now free and turned negative and they are not doing any active follow-up on the cases.
“Currently 19 people have been monitored at the quarantine stations with 17 at Nila, Shortlands Islands in the Western province, the other eight are from the country’s Olympians who recently returned to the country while the other four are PNG nationals.
‘We have increased our swabbing capability with the addition of new registered nurses that joined us since last week,” he said.
Dr. Baenivalu stressed that a total of 27 nurses and staff are the frontline doing the swapping of all fishing vessels, and maritime vessels that enter the country.
“We managed to have some experts who are providing the setting in Fiji from the WHO office about the scenarios Fiji are facing, the gaps Solomon islands have to fix, the response from Govt and NGO’s, social issues that we have to think about and the clinical operations to be considered at Hospital or in communities.
Meantime he retaliated that throughout the week and previous week, Vaccination is ongoing in Honiara, Guadalcanal, Western, Malaita and Central, Choiseul, while the rollout of vaccinations Isabel and Rennell & Bellona are yet to be done.
“So we have vaccinated 73,718 for the first doses of both AstraZeneca and Sinopharm. And those who are fully vaccinated are 18,000 people which is only about 4.4 percent of the 80% – 90% targeted population,’’ he said.
