Health Surveillance and Swabbing Continues

CLOSE observation of Individuals and groups that arrives in Honiara from MV Akwa from Ontong Java is continuing within identified hotspot location and Lord Howe settlement in Honiara.

While close monitoring is on full scale, the oversight committee has put in place measures that must be considered to prevent possible community’ transmission.

One of the recommendation from Oversight committee is for all Positive COVID-19 cases who are not sick and symptomatic to remain home and self isolated at home for 14 days.

According to Prime Minister COVID-19 Nationwide address the COVID-19 oversight committee has also recommend that all passenger service, including outgoing flights been suspended till further notice.

Under these measures the committee also put a stop to all domestic passenger services to and from Honiara – suspended until further notice.

Since the 60 hours lockdown is to be lifted by 6 am Saturday 22 the oversight committee will observed the following action:

  1. Limiting people movement – that people must scale down their movement into City and crowded areas.
  2. Business houses to be consulted to adopt a COVID-19 safety approach.
  3. Implementation and engagement plan to contain and control COVID19 in Ontong Java.
  4. Wearing face mask when living homes and don’t live your homes when not wearing mask.
  5. Practice social distancing at 2 meters from next person.
    6.Used hand sanitizer or wash your hands with a soap with water for 20 second.
  6. All stevedores who did board logging vessel must have mandatory COVID19 testing before boarding the vessel to prevent transmission of COVID19.

The PM also uttered during his Nationwide address that the important massage he want to put across the board is for people to limit their movement, stay at home and not to go out.

He further stated in his address that they are working to established another two sites to become field hospitals, one being a quarantine station and once complete will accommodate the increasing COVID19 cases by yesterday, Friday 21, January.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Sogavare assures that vaccination stations will be open as of Monday 24th January in all Honiara City council clinics and strategic location around the city.
