THE much anticipated training for front liners on how to handle dead bodies repatriated to Ulawa island by Ulawa Island’s Covid19 oversight committee has successfully concluded recently.

The training held at Pirupiru CHS was facilitated by one of the two visiting teams from the Makira Ulawa Provincial health division and MUP PDOC that on Thursday evening by OBM.

Upon arrival, the team together with the Ulawa Island Covid19 Oversight Committee decided to hold the training since they are running out of time as the first arranged flight for dead body repatriation to Ulawa will be at eleven o’ clock Friday morning.

Speaking upon the teams arrival at Taheramo clinic area, Makira Ulawa provincial Disaster Oversight Committee chairperson, Mr. Steven Piringisau says that with the two teams, one team will facilitate the training – for those who are to handle the first dead body that is due to arrive on Friday morning and another is a vaccination team.

“We are here to train those who are to do the handling of the casket that will arrive tomorrow (Friday) by plane and we will assist them so that everything is carried out accordingly as stated in the Standard Operation Procedures (SOP)”, Mr. Piringisau says.

“The vaccination team will be staying for another three days to administer Covid19 vaccination for those who are yet to get their first and second dose, pregnant women and children from 12 years up to 17 years of age as they now have the vaccines for them”, he adds.

Welcoming the team from Kira Kira, Ulawa Island’s Covid19 Oversight Committee chairperson, Mr. Allen Awao says that his Committee is very happy indeed to see the arrival of the teams from Kirakira on Ulawa to roll out the vaccination program as well as to facilitate the training on handling of dead bodies repatriated to Ulawa.

Vaccination roll out has started yesterday, Friday 25 February for the three wards on Ulawa starting at ward one at the Taheramo clinic area.
