The Diocese of Southern Malaita and Sikaiana Islands marked an important occasion this morning, with the official blessing and dedication of its new Diocesan Headquarters at Afio in Small Malaita.
The program included the blessing and dedication of the new headquarters compound, the office building, and three staff houses. This development is a major milestone for the diocese since its inauguration in November 2024.

Distinguished guests attending the event are; the Right Reverend Michael Bebeu, Bishop of the Diocese of Malaita ; Honorable Rick Hou, Member of Parliament for Small Malaita Constituency; and Honorable Cathy Nori, Member of Parliament for Maringe/Kokota Constituency in Isabel. Also present were Fr. Lindon Bana from the Office of the Faith and Order at the Anglican Church of Melanesia Provincial Headquarters, Rev. Ezekiel Naoheresia, President of the Masina Eclesis, representatives of the Malaita Provincial Government, NGOs, leaders of sister churches, traditional chiefs, and many community members from Afio and surrounding areas.
Prior to the dedication service, a welcoming ceremony was held on Saturday afternoon led by the Bishop of Southern Malaita and Sikaiana Islands, the Right Reverend Rickson Maomaoru, together with his diocesan team. The ceremony reflected unity, joy, and thanksgiving for the growth of the young diocese.

The Evensong service on Saturday evening, Bishop Michael Bebeu officiated the confirmation of 12 candidates. Through the laying on of hands, the candidates publicly affirmed their faith and received prayer for the strengthening of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation is an important sacramental rite in the Anglican Church.

The day was filled with excitement, thanksgiving, and celebration. Church members, leaders, and visitors rejoiced together as they witnessed another significant step forward in the life and mission of the Diocese of Southern Malaita and Sikaiana Islands.
