THE Solomon Islands Electoral Commission has issued a request for both international and local observers to participate in the upcoming 2024 Joint Elections in April.

Christina Miniti, the Deputy Chief Electoral Officer of the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission, made a call on Sunday during the joint election radio show on SIBC.

The Deputy Chief Electoral Officer said the application process for the observers is currently in progress.

“The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission has invited international observers through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and has started receiving applications from the international missions from overseas to observe the upcoming joint general elections,” she said.

The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission has invited interested groups to observe the 2024 Joint Election, requiring group applications. Accredited groups will fund logistical costs and adhere to the observer’s mission code of conduct, with the Solomon Islands Electoral Office accrediting them.

Christina pointed out that the closing date for all observers’ applications will be March 16th.

“After the closing date, there will be briefings for the electoral observer missions who will be coming over,” Christina said.

She added that the Electoral Commission will not be paying for any observer missions.

“Observers will be responsible for their own funding and logistics during the observation period.

“We will only be providing briefings and processes on how you will be carrying out the observation during the election period,” she explained.

She reminded the applicants to provide their full names correctly spelled out, the correct designation, and an ID photo.

She further explained that when you apply, you will receive an acceptance by the Electoral Commission, which will accredit you to have access to the polling stations as an observer.
