Solomon Islands Electoral Office has fostered partnership with the Office of DPP with an objective to assist SIEO staff understand the prosecution aspect of the Electoral Act.

Deputy Director Public Prosecution Mr Andrew Kelesi held a half day training session with SIEO staff on the Electoral Act especially on Offense and Penalties, and compliance.

This was in response to Chief Electoral Officer and Commissioner’s request for DPP assistance in exploring options for better administrate the EA in which her office is custodian.

Mrs Jane Waetara expressed her gratitude to DPP office for their positive response and delivery of this informative and worthwhile discussion.

“It is an in-depth session with fruitful discussion”, Mrs Waetara expressed.

She highlighted that; this discussion does not only initiate collaboration with DDP offices but has also point to relevant key government agencies that can be key players to support compliance to this Electoral Act.

Mrs Waetara knowledges that the Electoral Act is new and acknowledges the challenges that come with it”.

“Surely with this new this collaboration and support from other relevant government agencies, SIEC aims to improve accountability and the administration of the Electoral Act in the future”, Mrs Waetara said.

“We hope this will contribute to improving candidates’ accountability and compliance with the requirements of the Electoral Act 2018.

These initiatives are part of SIEC preparation in gearing up for the upcoming national election events.
