RESIDENTS of Gizo Town, and people from neighboring Islands jammed the provincial headquarters’ municipal Hall on the night of Thursday 23 December, as the town glows and blinks with colorful festive lights, on Christmas trees, vehicles, boats, and merry makers.

Father Christmas, singing groups and dancers graced the first of its kind “lights and carols” as young and old have fun until midnight.

The event was organized by residents and Gizo Town Council in the Western Solomons.

On Christmas eve Gizo residents celebrated in their church, community programs and family residents.

Organizer and the president of Gizo Town Appointed Council, Ms Constance Hermmer, expressed gratitude to people of Gizo community for their participation and attendance, that made the event fulfilling. She also acknowledged Western Provincial Government, GTC and individuals for sponsorship and support.

Elderly Member of Organizing committee, James Kana speaking at the carol night highlighted importance of upholding communal spirit and unity as the town is growing with populaces from diverse cultures.

He said, many people originally from Gizo have returned from Honiara in this festive season, to where they called home and to give back to the community, they started from.

To continue maintain sharing, as sharing is caring and upholding of initiative to do something for the community.

“Gizo gave so much for us, so we return and give back to Gizo.” He said.

He congratulates Parents for instilling values beginning from homes to their children, encouraging families to continue upholding good values that makes Gizo community a peaceful home for everyone.

Kana elaborated on the meaning of the theme of the event that people cannot find true light anywhere else, and the light is Jesus. He said, let the light shine and continue to change lives.
