PRESIDENT of Gaena’alu or better known as the Moro movement is calling on chiefs and elders in Guadalcanal province to be responsible when it comes to protecting their zones from the Contagious Coronavirus.
In an interview with Sunday Isles, President Chief Jerry said the responsibility of elders and chiefs is to control people’s movement going to and from Honiara City.
“Our village chief and elders should control the movement of people going to and from Honiara, this is to lower the risk of getting more people infected, especially the elderly in the villages with underlying illnesses,” he said.
“Though police have set up roadblocks at Alligator creek east of Honiara and Poha in the west, there are still some people going in and out of Honiara.”
“And it would be great if chiefs and elderly people to arrange for only a certain number of people to travel in and out from Honiara,” He added.
The Moro President also called on the Guadalcanal Provincial Government to try and update people on COVID-19 on different Media platforms apart from Facebook.
“My call for GPG was the COVID-19 updates, it should be disseminated not only via Facebook and radio but other media platforms as well including written letters to where networks and radio coverage is not available so that people can stay informed,” he added.
Sunday Isles understands that the daily COVID-19 updates on COVID-19 for country including GP are available daily on their Facebook page and the Minister of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) Culwick Togamana provides daily COVID-19 updates via SIBC radio.
