GAVI CEO Meets Health Minister and Visits NRH, NMS and HQ-EPI

THE Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunization, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Sania Nishtar this week met with the Minister for Health and Medical Services (MHMS) Dr Paul Popora Bosawai and the various alliances to GAVI including the World Health Organisation, World Bank and UNICEF to discussed GAVI’s immunization support to Solomon Islands.

Following the meeting, the Dr Nishter visited the National Medical Store (NMS), National Referral Hospital (NRH) and Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn/Nutrition, Child, Adolescent Health Department (RMNACAH) Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI).

Speaking at the meeting, Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS), Health Minister Dr Paul Popora Bosawai thanked GAVI for the long-standing partnership with Solomon Islands through the MHMS.

“GAVI’s unwavering partnership with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in the Solomon Islands has spanned two remarkable decades. Gavi’s support has been instrumental in enhancing our routine immunization program, allowing us to significantly increase vaccine coverage and introduce several life-saving vaccines, including IPV, Rota, PCV, and HPV”.

Minister Bosawai also thanked Gavi for its contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic through the COVAX facility providing over 400,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses and essential technical assistance to our health initiatives.

“Thanks to Gavi’s support, we have also had the privilege of collaborating with technical partners such as WHO and UNICEF, whose expertise has been vital in advancing our immunization efforts. With GAVI’s support we are making a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of our people and especially our children. The Government of Solomon Islands thanks Gavi, for your commitment and partnership”, said Minister Bosawai.

Meanwhile, Dr Sania Nishtar, Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunization thanked the Health Minister and Health Executive for welcoming her to SI and pledged Gavi’s continuous support and partnership with Solomon Islands.
