THE Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) has conducted a Community outreach program through the Yellow Ribbon project to raise awareness on giving people (ex-convicts) a second chance at life and their successful re-integration back into the community.
Speaking during an awareness talk held last Wednesday at Lunga Community High School Director Programs RCCC Inspector Jimmy Aega said the Project’s objective was to raise awareness of the need to give second chances to ex-offenders and their families and inspire community action to support rehabilitation and reintegration of ex-offenders back into society, a statement issued by CSSI media unit said.
He said the symbol of the Yellow Ribbon became widely known in civilian life in the 1970s as a reminder that an absence of loved ones, either in the military or in jail, would be welcome home on their return
He said the verse represents the Hope and Desire of Ex-offenders that a simple Yellow Ribbon of Acceptance, forgiveness and a second chance from their families and the community will help unlock the second door
“The act of wearing Yellow Ribbon is an active display of community support in offering a second chance and acceptance for ex-offenders and will symbolize his or her hope for forgiveness and acceptance, “ he said
Inspector Aega told Lunga CHS teachers and students that the benefits of Yellow Ribbon will bring a Safe and secure community, Reduce recidivists, unlock second prison mindset, acceptance, respect from inmates and nation will benefit from CSSI
Chairman of the CSSI Yellow Ribbon team Staff Sergeant Able Vane acknowledged communities, villages, churches, and schools who accepted the Yellow Ribbon team to conduct their awareness talked successfully.
