The Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) wishes to clarify that East Honiara’s selected sealed roads are ongoing contracts, and crews engaged for road lots are continuing their specific and routine maintenance works.
“The current contractors were retained from last year’s agreements and are diligently continuing their tasks as stipulated in their contracts.”
“We are closely monitoring their performance and providing ongoing supervision to ensure that the maintenance of these vital roadways is of quality and long-lasting.”
Only unsealed lots are yet to be awarded and are before the ministry’s tender board for deliberation before contracts are awarded.
“We comprehend the deteriorating state of some of our unsealed roads and drainage systems and assure East Honiara communities that our team is working around the clock with stakeholders to address it,” MID re-emphasised.
Community Access and Urban Services Enhancement (CAUSE II) Project has also identified a road section, drainage and bridge in component 1 of their infrastructure upgrades for east Honiara.
Additionally, the road rehabilitation segment of the Land and Maritime Connectivity Project (LMCP), which extends 31.7 km from Henderson Airport to Mberande Bridge, is nearing completion, with only a few kilometres left to finish. The final touches will involve the installation of road signs and markings.
