Guadalcanal Province has once again demonstrated its commitment to effective governance and institutional development by successfully meeting all 11 minimum conditions in the 2023-2024 Provincial Capacity Development Fund (PCDF) assessment.
This is the fourth consecutive financial year that the province has qualified for the PCDF, securing its eligibility for the 2025 funding allocation.
In an official communication from the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening (MPGIS), along with the Provincial Governance Strengthening Programme (PGSP) Joint Oversight Committee, the province was formally congratulated for its achievement.
MPGIS recognized the hard work and dedication of the provincial executives and officers who played a vital role in attaining this milestone.
“Your achievements have secured access to the PCDF allocations earmarked for 2025. This outcome is not only a testament to your province’s commitment to good governance and institutional strengthening, but also a reflection of the dedicated efforts of your provincial executives and hardworking officers,” the letter stated.
Despite broader national challenges, especially those related to climate change impacts, geographical locations of the 21 wards, and the low Performance Measures (PMs), i.e. 44 out of 100 PMs, than the previous financial year, the success of Guadalcanal Province shows the commitment to foster good governance values under the current Atu Government.
In his remarks to Guadalcanal core staff and Guadalcanal PCDF team last week, the Provincial Secretary Mr. Maesac Suia, congratulated them for their tireless efforts. He also urged them to continue work collaboratively to improve the grey areas in the next assessment.
Mr. Suia stated that the ultimate objective of the staff is to serve the interests of people of Guadalcanal
Guadalcanal’s consistent qualification exemplifies its strong administrative capabilities, transparent governance practices, and commitment to service delivery improvements, qualities that continue to set a new trend of good governance.
The Performance Measures result, 44 out of 100, is yet to be determined after the provincial government sends its reviews, but in the meantime, that’s the current score.
As the province prepares to utilize its 2025 PCDF allocation, this fourth consecutive qualification reflects not only past efforts but also a growing capacity to tackle the new challenges and further strengthen local development outcomes.
