Health Minister Dr Paul Bosawai sharing his keynote address at the event.

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) Dr Paul Bosawai in his keynote address at the handover ceremony of the newly isolation and renovation of the Helena Goldie Hospital, acknowledged the pivotal role the hospital provides in delivering health services to the people of Western Province.

Health Minister stated, “This hospital also plays a vital role in health workforce development through its School of Nursing. Although the college has been closed for some time, the Ministry of Health is committed to supporting its reopening, so it may once again train the next generation of nursing professionals to serve our people with skill and compassion”.

“Helena Goldie is more than a hospital – it is a strategic asset within an important economic corridor of Western Province and the country. Located near key infrastructure such as the international airport in Munda, Noro’s international seaport, and the country’s only tuna processing plant, this hospital provides essential healthcare services to those working in tourism, forestry, fisheries, and other sectors. In doing so, it contributes directly to the nation’s economic well-being”, said Dr Bosawai.

He then acknowledged all the key stakeholders who made these achievements possible.

He thanked the United Church of Solomon Islands. The vision and compassion of its pioneers – long before our country gained independence – laid the foundation for this hospital.

“I also thank today’s church leaders for continuing this partnership and allowing the government to deliver health services through Helena Goldie Hospital”, said Dr Bosawai.

He acknowledged the World Bank for financing these important projects.

“The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is pleased to have the Bank reengaging with the health sector since COVID-19. Its investment in critical health infrastructure has been invaluable. What we see today is part of a broader partnership, and I look forward to highlighting more projects and progress made through this collaboration.

Noting the presence of the Honourable Premier of Western Province at the celebrations, the Health Minister took the opportunity to convey the Government of National Unity and Transformation its deepest appreciation to the Western Provincial Executive “I also thank the Western Provincial Government for its ongoing support and fostering an enabling environment for health services and development in this region, including support to Helena Goldie Hospital.

“To the contractors, Super Construction Company and JED Construction company, thank you for the quality of your workmanship in delivering these facilities. Please continue to uphold this standard as more opportunities arise.

“To the doctors, nurses, allied health workers, and support staff of Helena Goldie Hospital—thank you for your service. These new facilities are in your hands; please care for them and continue to serve your communities with dedication and pride”, said Dr Bosawai.
