THE Ministry of Health would like to thank all Thirty thousand plus people who have received COVID-19 vaccines to date in Solomon Islands from Honiara, Guadalcanal, Western, Choiseul and Malaita Outer Islands and request that all support promotion of the vaccines by spreading the good news that, COVID-19 vaccines are safe for use and effective to protect against COVID-19.
Sharing your testimonies to family members and friends of what motivated you to come forward and get vaccinated is important. Tell them of your experience when receiving the vaccines and days, weeks and months afterwards. Share also the normal side effects felt following vaccination and the number of days (1 to 2) that it took for it to subside and disappear. These will greatly support current efforts to address fears and anxiety around the vaccines.
For all who come to vaccination sites and wish for their personal photos to be taken when receiving the vaccines, you can ask your friend or family member accompanying you to take your picture or a nurse at the site to help in taking your photos. We encourage everyone to share their photos of themselves vaccinated with their friends and family members either on social media or private family or friend group chats to promote the vaccine wherever whenever possible.
Together our health and lives are all at risk to COVID-19 thus this fight is ours, for each and every one of us to participate in and one way we can all take part together as a team against the virus is for all persons 18 years and above to get fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Central Field Hospital (Or Multi-Purpose Hall) is rolling out vaccination from 9am to 4pm every day, Monday to Sunday.
Guadalcanal province is also rolling out vaccination, initially along the Guadalcanal plains. This week vaccination conducted at Tetere Clinic at GPPOL 2 for GPPOL workers including nearby communities, such as Suaghi, Binu, Kaotave, Ghorabau, Sali and other small nearby communities. As of yesterday (14 July) another additional site opened at the Catholic Parish next to Good Samaritan Hospital to compliment Tetere clinic vaccination.
As of today (Thursday 15th July) to Monday next week, vaccination will be rolled out at GPPOL 3 clinic for GPPOL workers and the public 18 years and above with mobile teams to be visiting some nearby communities for vaccination which includes, Kolona, Talaura, Tetupa, Vavalu, Komukama and Rarate. Thus all persons along these areas to move to vaccination sites or watch for vaccination teams that will be coming around so you don’t miss the opportunity to get vaccinated.
In Western Province, all persons 18 years and above in Gizo requested to go to the Gizo hospital where vaccination is ongoing to get vaccinated. Similarly for Noro Township dwellers, vaccination is continuing at Noro clinic (Baru). This week vaccination conducted for Ringi residents and as of yesterdday (14th July) and today (15th July) vaccination team are and will be vaccinating at Poitete.
In Choiseul, vaccination roll out had resumed (on 8th July 2021) for 2nd doses to those who had already received their first and with the opening up of vaccination for all persons 18 years and above, 1st dose is also being administered at Taro Hospital for Taro catchment communities. Teams of vaccinators will be deployed to the communities later this week as part of the national roll out of COVID-19 vaccination.
Following launching of vaccination roll out in Honiara last week. Honiara City Council (HCC) will today (15th July) set up vaccination tent in front of Credit Union space commonly used for sporting activities. This is part of the roll out plan to bring vaccines closer to work places so all work men and women nearby the Credit Union Office come and get your vaccination jab done. Both 1st and 2nd doses will be administered there. HCC and the Ministry of Health will inform the public of new additional vaccination sites and schedule for community vaccinations as we progress.
