The Governor General of Solomon Islands, His Excellency Sir David Tiva Kapu, has granted a state pardon to inmate Francis Abuofa Fataga, who had been serving a life sentences at the Rove Central Correctional Centre whom has been paroled.

The announcement was made on Friday, 13th June 2025, during the official celebration of His Majesty King Charles III’s 76th Birthday at the National Stadium in Honiara. The decision to pardon Mr. Abuofa followed recommendations from the Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy, which met on 22nd May 2025.

In his official address, His Excellency stated:

“Based on the powers conferred on me under Section 45 of the Constitution of the Solomon Islands (as amended) and the recommendations of the Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy, I, Sir David Tiva Kapu, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Solomon Islands, hereby grant you, Mr. Francis Abuofa Fataga, a free pardon with immediate effect from the date hereof.”

His Excellency also encouraged inmates across the country to maintain good behaviour and to refrain from actions that could undermine the peace and progress of the nation.
