THE Numbu Community High School in North East Guadalcanal proudly unveiled its new two-story classroom building last week, funded by the Japanese government.

The new facility, aimed at enhancing the learning environment for students, was officially handed over during a ceremony attended by dignitaries and local officials.

Japanese Ambassador to the Solomon Islands, His Excellency Yoshiaki Miwa, spoke at the event, highlighting Japan’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure in the Pacific region. He revealed that the building project, which cost over 600,000 SBD, was part of Japan’s ongoing support for the Solomon Islands under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots and Human Security Projects (GGP).

“The goal of this project is to provide a better learning environment for students at Numbu Community High School today and in the future,” Ambassador Miwa stated. “It is a pleasure to witness the success of this project, and I salute the dedication of all the individuals who contributed to its completion.”

The initiative was launched on March 10, 2023, through a partnership between the Japanese Embassy and Numbu Community High School, with the collaboration of local project coordinators and stakeholders. Ambassador Miwa praised the collective efforts that ensured the project’s successful execution, emphasizing the strong educational ties between Japan and the Solomon Islands.

“The Japanese government is proud to contribute to the education sector in Solomon Islands,” Miwa continued. “We look forward to continuing our partnership and making a positive impact on future generations.”

The new classroom building is expected to accommodate the growing student population at Numbu CHS and support improved learning outcomes, helping to pave the way for a brighter future for the students and the community as a whole.
