30 women participated in a three days basic sewing class workshop organised by Jericho II Community Development Trust this week.
Speaking to the Solomon Women’s paper, Timothy Fiulaua, Jericho II Community Development Trust (J2CDT) Chairman said the training aims to empower women and girls to access the training and workshops to build their capacity in livelihood activities under the community waste management project campaign.
“The basic sewing class workshop is the second training held for women and girls in the community and is also one of the activities under objective two that aims to create alternative livelihood training for Jericho II women and girls, ”Mr Fiulaua said.
Mr. Fiulaua acknowledged Pacific People Advancing Change (PPAC) Phase 5 under South Pacific Community (SPC) for funding the project.
Betty Fikumani, a participant said she is very happy to join the training as a young mother as she is interested in sewing.
“As a young mother I am interested in sewing and coming to this three days training will definitely help influence me more into this skill,” Betty said.
The training workshop is funded by Pacific People Advancing Change (PPAC) Phase 5 under South Pacific Community (SPC).
The Jericho 2 community is a community-based organisation that focuses on waste management in the outskirt of Honiara city and part of the objective is to empower its members through capacity building, livelihood training, and life skills.
