There are a total of seven (7) Bills that the Government promised to bring to parliament but to date, only one was passed by parliament this year and that was the ‘Telecommunication Amendment Bill’ to regulate the registration of phone sim cards.

Independent Leader and Member of Parliament for North New Georgia, Hon. John Dean Kuku was speaking on Monday during the Motion of No Confidence against the Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare.

“Parliament has been graced on three occasions by his Excellency the Governor-General, Sir David Vunagi.

“In his speech to parliament at that time, His Excellency Sir Vunagi outlined a total of seven bills that the Government promised to bring to parliament.

“To date, the only bill that was passed by parliament this year was the telecommunication amendment bill to regulate the registration of phone sim cards.

“There were no other bills since 2019 except for budgets, supplementary budgets, and the state of public emergency extension,’’ Hon John dean Kuku said.

Kuku also highlighted that on March 15, 2021, the Governor-General delivered a speech from the throne to the nation and the gov’t in its legislative and agenda for 2021, announcing a total of 13 bills that will be brought to parliament in 2021.

“Out of the 13 Mr. Speaker, not one has come through parliament. As a former teacher when I give marks to the students, I will give this zero out of 13.

“We are now into the third year of DCGA government, we are now in December 24TH, more days before the end of the year and I do not believe any of these bills will come into parliament,’’ Hon Kuku said.
