The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration (MCILI), through its E-commerce Implementation Unit (EIU), is set to deliver the first-ever AI Essentials training for entrepreneurs in the Solomon Islands.

As part of the ongoing implementation of the National E-commerce Strategy (NECS), the initiative aims to strengthen digital capabilities in the private sector, particularly among small business owners, influencers, and aspiring entrepreneurs.

The “AI Essentials (Zero-Code)” workshop, scheduled for Thursday, 4 September 2025, will be conducted online and is open to 50 participants. A follow-up in-person session is expected to take place mid-September, capped at 30 attendees, who must have basic digital literacy and access to a laptop.

“Artificial Intelligence is no longer just for tech giants. It’s a powerful tool that everyday entrepreneurs can use to improve operations, research, and business decisions,” said a spokesperson from the EIU.

Participants will learn practical, hands-on AI skills such as:

  • Conducting smart, multi-source research
  • Writing clear prompts to get accurate answers
  • Using AI tools without coding (e.g. Local Facts, Price Convert)
  • Enhancing productivity using voice dictation and transcription
  • Knowing when and how to verify AI-generated content

Attendees will also receive useful resources, including:

  • A Prompt Playbook with ready-made templates
  • A Custom Instructions Guide for stable AI outputs
  • A Deep Research Checklist
  • AI Tool Cue Cards
  • Voice and transcription tips for both mobile and desktop users

The training will be delivered by Gurpreet “G” Singh, CEO of Mereka & Biji-biji Initiative, an entrepreneur and AI educator who specializes in helping communities adopt and benefit from frontier technologies.

Partners including SICCI, YECSI, and other local stakeholders are assisting with outreach and encouraging participation.

“This is a foundational step in digital transformation,” said the EIU. “We hope to equip local businesses with AI knowledge that can be applied immediately and sustainably.”
