The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has completed the scabies survey on Ulawa in the Makira Ulawa province.

A three-man team which consists of two male officers from the Makira Ulawa Province Health and Medical division and a female officer from the Ministry of Health visited Kelimei village and other surrounding communities doing a household survey for scabies on Thursday 7th October 2021, a one day survey.

Mr. Joshua Sanau said that this survey is being carried out all throughout the Solomon Islands and for the Makira Ulawa province, Kelimei village on the island of Ulawa is the fourth they have visited.

“The same survey is carried out all throughout the country and for Makira Ulawa Province, this is the fourth community we have visited”, he said.

“We have already completed the survey on Santa Anna, Star Harbor, and Wainoni and Kelimei community is the fourth community for the team to visit”, Mr. Sanau said.

He also adds that those found infected with the disease are given treatment right away as the team is also traveling with the treatment for scabies.

Mr. Sanau said that this survey is important for the Government to collect data for future planning.

“Data collected from this survey will determine what the ministry responsible will do in the future”, he said.

The team visited more than 20 households and carried out checks on more than 80 people for scabies during the survey.
