THE Ministry of Health and Medical Services recently bid farewell to 2 executive staff members, the former National Director of Nursing, Michael Larui and the former Director of Policy and Planning Ivan Ghemu at a dinner event at the Iron Bottom Sound Hotel in Honiara.

The former National Director of Nursing Mr Michael Larui has served in the nursing profession for the past 38 years working at various clinics and provincial hospitals, including holding various administrative posts within the nursing cadre, working his way to becoming the National Director of Nursing, a position he has held since 2008.Mrs Freda Pitakaka Lusi is the newly appointed Supervising National Director of Nursing

The former Director of Planning and Policy Mr Ivan Ghemu, a dedicated career public servant, served the MHMS for more than 20 years initially joining the Policy and Planning Unit as a junior officer up through to his recent role as the Director. Mr Brian Idufanoa is the current Supervising Director for Planning and Policy.

Speaking at the event, Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Paul Popora Bosawai thanked his 2 senior executive staff for their service to the nation in the health sector.

“I would like to acknowledge and reflect on our journey together and express my deepest appreciation for each of you.

“Since joining the Ministry, we’ve launched groundbreaking initiatives, weathered difficult times, and emerged stronger each time. We’ve celebrated wins big and small, learned from our setbacks, and built a culture of innovation and mutual respect for each other and our colleagues and staff at the MHMS.”

“None of this would have been possible without your dedication, your expertise, and your willingness to push beyond your comfort zones. You’ve challenged me to be a better leader, inspired me with your creativity, and shown me the true meaning of teamwork.”

“I would like to thank you for your service to the people of Solomon Islands in your own respective roles in the field of healthcare”, said Dr Bosawai.

The event was attended by the MHMS Executive, Directors, Heads of Departments and Senior staff from within the Ministry.
