
MINISTER of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD), Hon. Tozen Leokana congratulated the 25 education leaders for successfully accomplishing their Change Leadership training at the University of Newcastle in Australia.
He congratulated them during the Australian Leadership award held on 13th February 2025 at the Heritage Park Hotel.
Twenty-five education leaders from the provinces, including staff from MEHRD and supporting staff have undertaken intensive training at the University of Newcastle from November 3-17th 2024, online courses and two-week course in Honiara from February 10-14th 2025.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Hon. Leokana acknowledged the government of Australia for recognizing the need for enhanced leadership skills through Australia Award short courses targeting selected cohorts to address specific technical skills.
He also extends his acknowledgement to the Newcastle University school of education for offering their time and effort to ensure this partnership program was effectively implemented.
He believes the outcome of the Change Leadership short course brings transformative change in their leadership.
“I believe the training in Australia, additional online and two-week training in Honiara have offered opportunities for you towards building your leadership role which you would translate to improving the management, change and governance of our education system in the country,” he said.
