THE Ministry of Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs (MTGPEA) held a one-day consultation on the TGCFB 2018 with the Renbel Premier Hon. Willy Tuhangenga and the Members of the Provincial Assemblies at King Solomon Hotel last week.
This consultation with the Premier and MPAs of the Renbel Provincial government is part of a nation-wide consultation that was recommended by the Bills and Legislative Committee (BLC), which sees the Bills withdrawal in Parliament in 2018.
Speaking at the official opening of the consultation, the Deputy Secretary (Technical) Mrs, Emily Kupenga recognizes the Renbel provincial Premier and the MPAs for accepting the invitation to attend this consultation and fully thanked them.
She also said that this nation-wide consultation that the ministry had undertaken after the said Bill was withdrawn in 2018, was endorsed by the National Cabinet coincided to the broader recommendations of the BLC – which a need for nation wider consultation is part of. Since then, the ministry had completed other provinces as well as targeted groups and other stakeholders.
With other stakeholders, the ministry had also worked on other recommendations of the BLC regarding this withdrawn Bill, with the anticipation that all consultations and such other associated works on this said Bill should be completed not later than 2022.
Ms. Emily also highlighted that the said Bill is core to the flagship policy of the Democratic Coalition Government for Advancement (DCGA) policy statement. This said element to the extent of the said Bill is regarded for this aspect by government as its seeks to recognize, strengthen and empower the conciliatory and dialogue roles of the Chiefs and Traditional leaders including their standing in the communities to ensure peace and harmony in the communities in the country.
Meanwhile, the Renbel provincial Premier Hon. Willy Tuhangenga thanked the DCGA through the Ministry of Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs (MTGPEA) for giving them the opportunity on behalf of the people of Renbel province to also contribute to the said Bill.
Also, he says “this consultation is very important given the diversity of our country and our contribution, especially reflecting our Polynesian identity and context in the country today will provide pathway to further improve the said draft Bill”. And further called on attending Renbel MPAs to contribute fully to the said Bill.
